The NFL will cut their rosters down to 75 by monday and 53 by about a week later. It’s a very tough time for NFL prospects because of the sheer numbers reality that there may be only a few spots available on the roster of many NFL franchises.

Still no Bilski
June 21st, 2010 — Uncategorized
Another day of oppinions. Another day without SCOTUS deciding Bilski v. Kappos. What is the holdup? Is this because the court is trying to go out (of this term) with a bang? There are only 2 dates left (from what I’ve been told). It’s becoming more and more likely that this will be the ultimate opinion authored by Justice Stevens. It seems the longer it takes to get an opinion the more likely that some fundamental shift is coming.
iPhone 4
June 7th, 2010 — Apple, Phones, Technology, Uncategorized, iPhone
Well the blogosphere just came to a halt for nearly 2 hours. The iPhone 4 has been announced and demoed in glorious detail. It looks pretty swanky. The details:
- 300ppi 960×640 screen (largest on a 3.5″ device)
- .37″ Thick
- Increased battery life
- Front & Back Camera
- Antenna built into the body
- Gyroscope
What was not announced
- No Verizon (more on that after the break)
- No increase in capacities
All in all a big (and mostly non-disappointing) announcement

Just overheard in the airport:
(Conversation among a single family)
Mom: Those iPad things look really cool.
Dad: Yea, but I want one of those tablet things.
Mom: I want to get an iPad, but can’t seem to find them.
Dad: Have you seen the tablet. It’s so much better.
…
Dad: Those tablets are so hot, I wonder if I can get one now or if they are sold out?
For those of you who have been living under a rock, or can’t tell from the sarcasm in the text, he didn’t know they were the same thing. Also, as widely reported in multiple media outlets, the pre-orders are sold out and all new pre-orders are to ship on the 12th. General availability isn’t expected until the 21st.

The US House of Representatives has approved a sweeping overhaul of the $2.5 trillion US healthcare system. Below is a summary of what to expect as Obama will sign the entire package into law.

18.5 Quintillion combinations of ways to fill out the 65 teams in the NCAA march madness bracket. If you don’t care about the ‘play-in game’ it drops to a 9.2 Quintillion. Even if you assume that the 1 & 2 seeds are a lock to escape the first round, that still leaves 36 Quadrillion combinations. A crazy amount. There are several more reasons that no one will be the crazy lucky winner and correctly pick the outcome. Continue reading →
The Current State of the Full Frame Debate
March 11th, 2010 — Uncategorized
It seems as if every other month some camera magazine article has some hapless debate about the end all discussion of the full frame debate for Digital SLR cameras (DSLR). It’s about as silly as the predictions newsweek made 15 years ago about how the internet would fail. I am not here to tell you how sensor formats will shake out for the next 50 years, but only how things are now. It could change in 3 months, likely in 3 years, definitely in 30 years. I don’t want to have some a-hole coming back here in 2025 telling me that I was wrong. If you think I’m wrong, it better be before 2012. Continue reading →
Canon 550d/T2i
February 8th, 2010 — Cameras, Technology, Uncategorized
Just announced a new canon consumer SLR. Superceding the T1i and roughly $900MSRP it is not going to compete with Nikon’s D5000 or similar bodies. In traditional SLR camera fashion we will have to wait 2+ months to find out what the goods really deliver.

It’s Craptastic™!

The media distribution company formally known as Comcast (see their Comcastic commercials here) realized that they were a shitty company with a reputation of poor customer service, outdated technology, draconian policies, and uncompetitive prices. After consulting with their various business experts about the costs of fixing such reputational issues they realized that they would rather just change their name, and ruin that one too.
What’s Missing From The iPad
January 28th, 2010 — Uncategorized
After having a chance to read the initial reviews and reactions over at ArsTechnica, Engadget, & cnet I have come to some conclusions. The iPad is evolutionary, not revolutionary. As ArsTechnica put it, it has not been met with the same reaction that the iPhone had when it was announced. It does not seem like some amazing paradigm shifting, innovative new product that simply blows everything currently offered out of the water. It seems like just a logical offering of Apple to try and capture more of a complete line of technology products. There are some glaring omissions that may lead to it’s ultimate demise.
